John Reuss

John Reuss, painter from Denmark, does these really cool, really dark paintings of people. Sometimes just their heads, sometimes without their heads. The thing I like about these paintings is that they show heavy influence of cubism in some but not all.

The works show a world inside the mind, it shows the emotion that you cannot see in a physical way which yeah art does that all that time especially in the realm of the abstract but it's a lot more obvious here. The colors are mostly cold and parts of the body layer over each other distorting the image enough to make it look very uncomfortable but not to the point where you can't make out where all five eyes are.

  1. I would have liked to hear a little more information about the artist in your post, but it's really good that you add a link to more about him so we can see and learn more. As for the pictures, I think they really give off a good idea of the artist.

  2. It was interesting to hear your opinions on these pieces. I also think it would have been cool to hear a little bit more background on the artist. I really enjoyed looking at these pictures & the sort of blurry layered style in most of the pieces.

  3. I loved your descriptions about these pictures. The layering of human movement reminded me of Duchamp's "Nude Descending a Staircase" but these pieces are much more realistic, making you feel that much more emotion looking at the movements of the human face. Like you said, it's just distorted enough to make you uncomfortable, but doesn't make the face unrecognizable.
